It's Tomato Time!
The northwest is great for growing things, and each year we derive such pleasure from our small garden. We have quite a variety of things growing this year. Of course there are always the berries - five different kinds. But there are also beans and peas, and cabbage and squash -2 kinds, and potaotes -3 kinds, and garlic, and onions and carrots and beets. It's been fun and productive.
But now it's tomato time. This year is somewhat late for tomatoes. We had a cool, wet spring and so things got off to a slow start. But finally the bushes are heavy with tomatoes and we are getting the first ripe ones. We have three different kinds of table tomatoes including one heritage variety, and two kinds of cherry tomatoes. We picked seriously for the first time yesterday. If the weather holds we will have more than enough to eat and can, we will also have some to share with friends. That is always very satisfying.
Well that's what's happening today in our corner of the northwest just before Labor Day.
Hope your holiday is enjoyable.
Walt, for the three of us.
P.S. I wonder if those Alberta peaches are ready on Sauvie Island? U-pick is great fun. Get out and enjoy it!
