Indian Summer

We are having beautiful weather! Highs in the mid-80's and lows in the upper 50's, with lots of blue sky and sunshine make for very enjoyable weather. And its good for the garden. We are getting ripe tomatoes every day, green peppers, cabbage, carrots and beets. We also dug our first potatoes the other day and wow, what fun! As I put the spade under the plant and lifted it up, the dirt broke away and Pam scooped them up. Like a treasure hunt. And the result ...

This is about 1/3 of planting. We didn't plant a whole lot, a couple 15ft rows, but what fun.

Last weekend on Saturday we went again to the Pumpkin Patch on Sauvie Island. It is a large farm that sells a huge variety of fruits and vegetables and flowers to the public from their store and provides u-pick options for those interested. They also put on rides for the kids, have farm animals to see and feed, have a great corn maze every fall, amid other things. We enjoy going every year. Sara really enjoys it. They also have this great big beautiful old barn off the parking lot, and next to it a huge old oak tree. Every year I marvel at what a great sight the combination of them make, and I try to get pictures of it. It is so huge though that it is difficult to get it all in the picture. But here are my attempts this year, along with some other pics from our day at "the Patch", and a couple pics of our "harvest results" from our garden this summer. Summer is a truly wonderful time in the Northwest.

Walt, for the three of us.

Smiling...I wondered if anyone would remember my efforts in Texas. And yes, giant bumble bees...laughing.
Love you, Daughter!

Hi Dad, it is nice to see you blogging again so much! I have been reading and will try to be better about commenting. :) These are super pictures! We have a great pick your own farm here that we have visited several times. I continue to be envious of your garden and hope we can have a garden someday.
